Engineering 2050: a sustainable, prosperous and competitive future

With the importance of engineering in matching both issues, we are well-placed to play a role in achieving this goal.

Delivering Net Zero is, more than anything, an engineering challenge.  Finding ways to decarbonise transport, homes and energy production can both mitigate against the ravages of climate change and promote economic growth.

These objectives can only be achieved if we close the UK’s engineering skills gap.

In building a digital future, the UK has serious levels of expertise in artificial intelligence, data and digitalisation.

What is needed is government leadership to ensure this know-how can be harnessed for the economy.

This manifesto illuminates the choices and decisions that need to be taken to ensure both safety and prosperity for the UK and the wider world in the next twenty-eight years.
